I need to post more, thus here’s a summary of what I’ve been doing this week.
Evan – He’s got a cold again *sighs* so this winter has been a never ending battle against snot and fussiness. I feel sorry for the little guy, but his immune system has to be getting one heckuva workout.
The Net – Keeping up on news by going to Digg quite a bit. I also discovered the group “ForTaxReasons” over on YouTube. I really enjoyed their take on the old G.I. Joe PSA’s with a bit of a subversive twist. Also, their other animations “I’m in your manger killin’ your savior” (see below) and HP Papercraft are well worth a look-see if you’re geeky in a D&D/Videogamey way.
Books – I’m enjoying a book Greg gave me (thanks Secret Santa!) called Radical Brewing, which sheds a lot of light on the history of beer making, the nitty gritty details behind all the ingredients and has some great new recipes for me to try out, all presented in a very humorous and informative way. I’m also working on plowing through Anathem, which is a great book, although suffering from “Neal Stevenson Post-Diamond-Age” syndrome wherein he decided that minutiae make for good reading. In other words, the story starts about 300 pages into the story, which makes for a potentially frustrating experience.
TV - Top Chef is winding down with only the finals to go. if you haven’t seen it and are a fan of food, it’s highly suggested watching. Entertaining and even a tad educational without becoming boring. Battlestar Galactica has gone full-on-end-of-series-reveal-crazy, which is both rewarding and also a tad overwhelming at times. Still a great series though. Also, I got sucked into the HBO series “The Wire”, and have been devouring old episodes to catch up. If you like gritty character driven cop-procedurals, this looks to be the best of the bunch.
Games - Dawn of War II was just released and will probably consume quite a bit of my meager free time over the next few weeks. (The intro is amazing.. and a bit bloody..) I was always a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and this release is as close as it gets to having your own little pack of living Space marines to lord over. Additionally, Flower was released for download over the PS3 Network, and is an excellent example of art in videogames. It’s less of a game and more of an “Interactive Electronic Experience” (also having been dubbed, an “Electronic poem” or the “Dream of a flower”). I know, it sounds eclectic, but it’s also beautiful and quite amazing.. (below)
