Memorial Weekend Camping – William O’Brien State Park

03 Jun

The annual pilgrimage to a beautiful outdoor location (thanks to our planner Desiree!) is in the bag yet again. Although we were down a few families this year, we were pleased to spend our weekend with the Brazeltons, Greg Salee and the womenfolk of the Barbagallo family. The weather was beautiful, albeit a tad hot and with a single afternoon of rain, but how can you complain when surrounded by such beautiful northern Minnesota terrain.

Evan had a great time in the woods, especially enjoying the company of the Barbagallo and Brazelton girls. He did really well sleeping in the tent and despite waking up early a few nights, snuggled right to our sleeping bags for the remainder of the early morning hours. Ein spent much of his time guarding the campground from the many passers-by with many an unnecessary bark and playing well with the kids. Ticks and insects were present, but relatively minimal, compared to the past few years, a future trend I can get behind.

We were also fortunate enough to be treated to an afternoon visit by the Miller’s, as they stopped up to participate in our Cooking Club – Camping event, where many a tasty dish was present, the most impressive of which was the dessert created by Desiree (our MVP it seems). She went so far as to cook an entire chocolate cake with cherries and whip up some vanilla ice cream right there at the campsite. All in all, it was a delicious and impressive endeavor. Recipes and pics incoming presently.

Finally, as yet another Memorial weekend passes us by, we get the chance to remember those who served their country to make it the secure land of opportunity that it is to this day. Let us not forget that we have a massive number of our soldiers in harms way even at this time, here’s hoping they return home safe and secure and soon.

Update: Greg updated his gallery of Memorial Weekend photos.
